This NCLT "coin" was issued to commemorate
the bicentennial of American Independence (two years before the event but in the
year where Americans could again possess gold). The obverse features a scene of
the Battle of Savannah with the country's name REPUBLIQUE D'HAITI at the top.
At the top and the bottom of the vignette are inscriptions in French and English
denoting the event. The reverse features thar arms of the Republic with the French
legend LIBERTE EGALITE FRATERNITE at the top and the denomination 1000 GOURDES
and the date 1974 at the bottom. The hallmark 900 is to the top left of the G
in GOURDES.
