The Professional Currency Dealer Association was founded in 1985. It counts among its members over 100 of the world's leading numismatics specialists in currency, stocks and bonds, fiscal documents, and related paper items.

The goals of the organization are to promote, stimulate and advance the profession of numismatics in all forms of currency and related items; to advance the study of paper money; and to promote honest, knowledgeable and ethical dealing between members and the public.

PCDA seeks to foster public awareness of numismatics though education and currently sponsors several projects aimed specifically at accomplishing that goal. Some of these are; the National Bank Note research project; a series of informative booklets concerning various specialty areas of the numismatics; and sponsorship of the John Hickman National Bank Note Exhibit Award, presented each June at the Memphis Paper Money Convention: and underwriting of paper money seminars at the American Numismatic Association's summer series, as well as providing scholarships to worthy recipients to attend those seminars.

PCDA also hosts its own numismatic show, the National and World Paper Money Convention each fall in St. Louis.

PCDA aims to make people aware of the joys of collecting, and the knowledge that can be acquired through participation and study numismatics. The camaraderie that is also experienced can be looked upon simply as an added fringe benefit!
